83% of motorists do not set up a warning triangle when their vehicle has broken down according to our recent survey
It may sound like the obvious thing to do, but our recent breakdown safety survey has revealed that 83% of motorists do not set up a warning triangle when their car has broken down.
The survey, completed by over 70 motorists of various ages and occupations was conducted to gain an insight into the behaviour and views motorists hold on breakdowns.
The majority of the people quizzed were in the 36-50 age bracket, drove between 100 and 200 miles per week and had annual breakdown cover.
Previous breakdown locations were varied with an equal 22% reporting breakdowns at home and on the motorway and 23% stating their last breakdown was on a single or dual carriageway, reinforcing the fact that breakdowns are random and unexpected, which is why we need to be prepared and equipped at all times.
Interestingly, when quizzed on the initial emotion they felt when their schedule was disrupted by the inconvenient breakdown, only 4% stated they felt angry potentially meaning less road rage when they were back behind the wheel.
The majority of people (58%) stated annoyance as their main emotion, followed by stress (26%) and vulnerability (15%).
And when it comes to the conventional warning triangle, it seems motorists on the whole are not satisfied with a significant 77% preferring greater visibility than the 90 metres it provides.
When asked whether they would be interested in a breakdown safety product which offered greater visibility and reassurance that their vehicle would be less likely to cause a collision, 69% answered yes.
Yet 47% agreed that they would purchase only if the cost and practicality of the product was right. Equally, 47% said they would be persuaded to purchase if the product provided 1,000 metres of visibility – 10 x greater than the conventional warning triangle.
One product which does just that is Astucia’s HazLight Micro kit.
HazLight Micro kits contain intensely bright, strobing studs which are placed on the road further back from the warning triangle and alert motorists of the approaching hazard giving them more to time to react.
The kits are compact and come with an in-car cigarette lighter which they can be charged with.
Remember, breakdowns are only unfortunate for the unprepared so equip yourself with HazLight Micro today!
